Subspace Communications, LLC

SubSpace Communications is a majority woman-owned partnership formed by Gillian Canty and Brandon Ross in 2003.

Gillian Canty has been selling technology equipment for about 10 years now.  She started out by selling DEC equipment in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  When sales with DEC equipment started to slump (when they became Hewlett Compaqard)- she decided to start learning the ins and outs of networking equipment. She received her Cisco Sales certificate (whatever that means) and started out selling Cisco. Extreme boredom at her former job caused her to form SubSpace Communications with Brandon.

Since the formation of SubSpace, she has expanded her equipment expertise into Foundry, Riverstone, Extreme, Juniper, and many other brands as well and has learned about the functionality of said equipment instead of just selling a part number. And she's never bored!!! Gillian is in-charge of the day-to-day operations of SubSpace, which includes testing all equipment and solving all problems (within reason, folks). You call SubSpace - you get her!

Brandon Ross started out as a young geek at University of Florida stringing copper between buildings and watching packets go over them. He paid his dues and eventually was hired on at Mindspring (now Earthlink) as a NOC (Network Operations Center) engineer. He clawed his way up the corporate ladder to be Director of Network Engineering and aided in the redesign of Mindspring's network. Since then, he's held director positions in companies that either blew up graceslessly, quietly faded out or drove him batty with inefficiency. But, he fixed their networks. Brandon is known throughout the industry as one of the foremost IP Networks specialists. He can be seen at any NANOG meeting talking in three-letter acronyms (TLAs).
